Francesco De Natale

Bio: Prof. Francesco De Natale graduated in Electronic Engineering (M.Sc. level) in 1990 at the University of Genova (Italy) and got a Ph.D. in Telecommunications in 1994 at the same University. In 1996 he got a position of Assistant Professor at the University of Cagliari and successively moved to the University of Trento, Italy, where he is Full Professor of Telecommunications Engineering (from 2003). He has been the Head of the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI) from 2006 to 2009 and currently leads the Research Lab on Multimedia Communications (mmlab.disi.unitn.it) and the MMSPI (Multidimensional Multimodal Signal Processing and Interpretation Lab) of the Italian branch of the European Institute of Technology (EIT-ICTLabs@Italy). His research interests are focused on multimedia communications, with particular attention to multidimensional signal processing, analysis, and archiving. His results are witnessed by the publication record, with more than 150 works published on major international peer reviewed scientific journals and conferences (see the link http://www4.unitn.it/Ugcvp/en/Web/ProdottiAutore/PER0004833 for a partial list). He was General Co-Chair of the Packet Video Workshop (PV-2000), Program Co-Chair of the IEEE Intl. Conf. on Image Processing (ICIP-2005), and General Chair of the ACM Intl. Conf. on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR-2011). He has been Associate Editor of the IEEE Trans on Multimedia and of the IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for Video Technologies, as well as a member of the IEEE Signal Proc. Society Technical Committee on Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP), chairing the Technical Directions Subcommittee. Currently, he is member of the Board of Governors of the Italian Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT), and the UniTN delegate in the Assembly of the EU EIT ICTLabs. He has been scientific coordinator of many large-scale research and development projects, both at the national and international level (see, e.g., EU-IP GLOCAL project, 2010-13, one of the key EU initiatives in media retrieval. Prof. De Natale was appointed evaluator for several international bodies, including the European Commission, and the NSFs of US and Ireland. Prof. De Natale is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of ACM and GIRPR.

Giulia Boato

Position: Associate Professor

Bio: Giulia Boato was born in Rovereto (Trento) in 1979. In 2002 she received the M.Sc. degree in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science of the University of Trento. In 2005 she obtained the Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies, working in the Multimedial Signal Processing and Understanding Lab on innovative methodologies for secure multimedia communications using Birkhoff polynomial interpolation. Currently, she is Assistant Professor at the Department of Information Engineerig and Computer Science (DISI) of the University of Trento (Italy) and professor of the courses Digital signal processing and Data hiding within the M.Sc. Degree in Telecommunications Engineering. From 2008 to 2011 she has been coordinating the Multimedial Signal Processing and Understanding Lab. She was in the Project staff of some past projects (DIPLODOC, AIDER, GRID.IT, PERSEO) and on-going projects (EU projects: SAFESPOT, FP7 FET-IP LIVINGKNOWLEDGE, FP7 IP GLOCAL, FP7 CA ETERNALS). She is co-chair of the International Workshop Living Web: making diversity a true asset (Washington DC, October 2009) within the International Semantic Web Conference 2009 and of the workshop on Event-based Media Integration and Processing co-located with ACM Multimedia conference 2013. She is in the Technical Program Committee of the International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) and of the International Conference on Communications (ICC); and Local Arrangements Chair of the International Symposium on Modeling and Optimization in Mobile, Ad Hoc, and Wireless Networks 2005 and of the International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval 2011. She is reviewer for many international journals, e.g., IEEE Transaction on Information Forensics and Security, IEEE Transaction on Signal Porcessing, IEEE Transaction on Multimedia, IEEE Transaction on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. In 2006 she was visiting researcher at the Signal Theory and Communications Department of the University of Vigo (Spain). Since 2006 she has been collaborating with the Signal Processing Department of the Tampere University of Technology (Finland), in particular with prof. Karen Egiazarian. Since 2009 she has been working with prof. Hany Farid of the Dartmouth College (USA) on digital image and video forensics techniques, co-advising a Ph.D. thesis. In 2012 she was visiting researcher at the Multimedia Information Retrieval Lab of the University of Delft (the Netherlands). Her research interests are focused on image and signal processing, with particular attention to multimedia data protection, data hiding and image forensics, but also intelligent multidmensional data management and analysis. On these topics she is active in the european prjects coordinated by DISI: in LIVINGKNOWLEDGE for the development of image forensics methods supporting opinion mining on the web, in GLOCAL for the desing of multimedia annotation and retrieval systems based on the concept of event.

Nicola Conci

Position: Associate Professor

Nicola Conci received the Ph.D in 2007 from the University of Trento, Italy. In 2007 he was visiting student at the Image Processing Lab. at University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2008- 2009 he was post-doc researcher in the Multimedia and Vision research group at Queen Mary, University of London (UK). Since 2009 he is assistant professor at the University of Trento, Italy. His research interests are related to machine vision for video surveillance and behavior understanding.

Niccolò Bisagno

Position: Post Doctoral Researcher

Bio: Niccolò Bisagno received his PhD in 2020 from the ICT International Doctoral School of the University of Trento, Italy, for the thesis “On simulating and predicting pedestrian trajectories in a crowd”. In 2019, he was visiting PhD student at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, USA. In 2018, he was visiting PhD student at the Alpen-Adria-Universität, Klagenfurt , Austria. Prior to that, he received his BS and MS degree in Telecomunication Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy, in 2015 and 2016.

His research area focuses on crowd analysis with a focus on pedestrian trajectory prediction and crowd simulation in virtual environments. He is also interested in machine learning and computer vision, with special focus on open set classification and sports analysis applications.

Sebastiano Verde

Position: Post Doctoral Researcher

Bio: Sebastiano Verde received his PhD in 2021 from the Doctoral School in Information Engineering of the University of Padova, Italy, for the thesis “Content integrity and origin discovery in multimedia forensics”. In 2019, he was visiting PhD student at the University of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, participating in the project DéjàVu. Prior to that, he received his BSc degree in Information Engineering and his MSc degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy, in 2014 and 2017.

His research interests lie primarily in the area of multimedia signal processing, with a special focus on image and video forensics. He is also interested in computer vision, 3D graphics and machine learning.

Nicola Garau

Nicola Garau received the BSc and MSc degree in data science from the University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy and from the University of Trento, Trento, Italy, in 2016 and 2018 respectively. He is currently a Ph.D student at the University of Trento. He was a visiting internship student at the National Centre for Computer Animation, Bournemouth University, Poole, U.K. His current research focuses on human pose estimation and capsule networks, with particular application to ambient assisted living and human behaviour analysis.

Andrea Montibeller

Andrea Montibeller received his M.Sc. in Information and Communications Engineering in 2020. He was research fellow at the University of Vigo for 6 month during 2018, working for prof. Fernando Pérez-González and since November 2020 he is a PhD student with the ICT Doctoral School. His main research interests focused on multimedia forensics are: source identification of videos based on the use of noise residuals and recognizing video fully or partially generated by GANs.

Zeno Sambugaro

Zeno Sambugaro holds an M.Sc. in Information and Communication Engineering. He is currently a Ph.D. student, member of the Multimedia Signal Processing and Understanding Lab (MMlab) at the University of Trento, Italy. His main research interests comprise machine learning and computer vision, with a focus on open set classification.

Giulia Martinelli

Giulia Martinelli received her M.Sc. in Mechatronic Engineering in October 2020 at the University of Trento. Now she is a research fellow at the MMLab group and she is currently collaborating in a project for the pose estimation from top-view RGB images.

Lorenzo Orlandi

Lorenzo Orlandi is a Ph.D. at the University of Trento, Italy. Before he started his doctoral research he worked at Arcoda s.r.l.. He dealt with discovering new applications of augmented reality technology in the workforce management. His current research interests are in 3D reconstruction of indoor environments.

Antonio Luigi Stefani

Antonio Luigi Stefani received his M.Sc in Information and Communication Engineering at the University of Trento in 2021. He joined MMLab as research assistant and currently works on crowd behaviour analysis and deepfake detection over social network.

Federico Marcon

Federico Marcon received his Master Degree in Information and Communication Engineering in March 2021. His interests include media forensics, computer vision and machine learning. In April 2021, he joined the MMLab as research assistant working on deepfakes detection over social networks and web platforms.

Cecilia Pasquini

Position: Assistant Professor (RTD-A)

Bio: Cecilia Pasquini received her PhD in 2016 from the ICT International Doctoral School of the University of Trento, Italy, for the thesis “Statistical and deterministic approaches for multimedia forensics”. From 2016 to 2020, she has been a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Privacy and Security Lab with the Universität Innsbruck, Austria, and at the IT Security Lab at the University of Münster, Germany. In 2013, she was visiting PhD student at the University of Vigo, Spain. Prior to that, she received a BS and MS degree in Mathematics from the University of Ferrara, Italy, in 2010 and 2012.

Her research area lies at the intersection of multimedia signal processing and information security, with special focus on image and video forensics, multimedia security, adversarial signal processing and machine learning. She has participated in several projects on these topics, such as UNCHAINED (funded by DARPA), TRUEBEES (funded by EU), PREMIER (funded by MIUR), ITBDIF (funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), J-MDS, NOTIS, ECMSF (funded by EUREGIO).

She has been General Co-Chair of the ACM Workshop on Information Hiding & Multimedia Security 2018, and co-organizer of the special session "Information Security meets Adversarial Examples" at IEEE WIFS 2019. She is member of the Technical Program Committe of several conferences and workshops (e.g., ACM IH&MMSec, IEEE WIFS, IEEE ICASSP, EUSIPCO), and serves as reviewer for many journals (e.g., IEEE TIFS, IEEE TCSVT, IEEE TIP, EURASIP JIS). She is an elected member of the Eurasip BForSec Technical Area Committee. She received the Top 10% paper award (IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing 2013) and the “F. Carassa” GTTI 2015 award for the best ongoing PhD.

She is main co-lecturer of the course "Trends and Applications of Computer Vision" (Master Program in Artificial Intelligence Systems).

Federica Lago

Federica Lago received her M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2017. She was research fellow at the MMLab group, and since 2018 she is a PhD student with the ICT Doctoral School. Her main research interests are focused on multimedia forensics ad data analysis, and her research is currently focused on recognizing GAN synthesized human faces and deepfakes.


Giulia Tabarelli

Giulia Tabarelli received her Ms.C. in Information and Communication Engineering at the University of Trento in October 2019. Now she is a research assistant at the MMLab group, collaborating in a project with StreamOut, a local company. She is working on Shared.Media, an application which creates video highlights from sport experiences, such as rafting, paragliding or canyoning, identifying automatically the best and captivating parts of the recorded activity, to give a digital memory to the people who partecipate in it.

Andrea Montagner

Andrea Montagner is a research assisistant at the MMlab group since 2018. At the moment, he is working on a collaboration project with a local company, Antemotion, which is focused on developing a new state of the art simulator for the automotive industry. His main interests are computer graphics, game developing and software engineering.

Lorenzo Braccaioli

After earning my Master Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Trento, I entered the computer vision world to explore my interest for multimedia signal processing. As a research fellowship holder, I am collaborating with Streamout S.R.L. to develop an innovative tool for automated video highlights extraction.

Andrea Grisenti

Position: Project Manager Ausilia and Business Developer

Bio: Andrea Grisenti received M.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering in 2010. From 2011 he worked as Sales Engineer and then as head of international markets in a company involved in the gas leak detection market growing his skills in International Business, Customer Relationship Management, Sales Management and Development of custom and innovative products . From 2016 he worked as COO of a small subsidiary involved Bioenergy industry for one of the major international players in the environmental sector based in the north of Italy. From 2018 he is the Project Manager of Ausilia Project, Ausilia is a territorial laboratory inside the Villa Rosa rehabilitation hospital (Pergine Valsugana, Trento). The aim is to test, develop and integrate solutions to foster independent living of subjects affected by disabilities or recovering from traumas (AAL sector). He's also following the development of potential Projects / Business for MMLab group in the sport research field.

Sebastiano Chiari

Sebastiano Chiari is a M.Sc student at the University of Trento. After a 6 months post-degree study grant at the MMLab on crowd analysis and simulation, he is continuing working on the development of a Unity based crowd-simulator.
